Friday Dinners

Family Table logoIt’s the end of a long week. What will you do for dinner? Oh brother, not another pizza. Not another drive-through.

Why not join your MCC family in the Emery Room of the Parish Center for Barbeque Fridays starting February 19 and offered through March 26?

For the price of a kid’s meal you can have: Pulled chicken or pork barbeque sandwich, cole slaw, chips, soup of the week, and double-delicious brownies for dessert! Coffee, drink and water included. First come, first served. (Now just where in town can you beat that for a $4 suggested donation per person?+)

C’mon, have dinner with your MCC family on Friday nights. You don’t have to do a thing but be served. Stay after for worship on 2/19 or for a Free  group beginning 2/26, or just stick around and hang out with your friends. But don’t feel obligated - you can eat and run!

Wednesdays, 7:00-8:00 pm, at the Chapel — Worshipping. Waiting. Listening. Praying.

These times of restoration each week bring refreshment. Feel free to worship, pray or simply wait and receive in silence as you are led. Elders and others are always available to pray with you as you have need.

  • Feb. 3: An evening focused on love and unity. We’ll end our journey through Ephesians focusing on Ephesians 5. Couples are invited to come for a special time of prayer and blessing of marriages. Consider it an early Valentine’s Day celebration.
  • Feb. 10: One of our members will lead this evening of worship and prayer. This is her last Wednesday with us for some time before she moves.

Book: Your God is Too Safe

Your God is too Safe book coverHere's a thoughtful, probing exploration of why Christians get stuck in the place of complacency, dryness, and tedium -- and how to move on to new levels of spiritual passion! Buchanan shows how the majority of Christians begin their spiritual journey with excitement and enthusiasm -- only to get bogged down in a "borderland" -- an in-between space beyond the "old life" but short of the abundant, adventurous existence promised by Jesus.

Citing Jonah, he examines the problem of "borderland living" -- where doubt, disappointment, guilt, and wonderlessness keep people in a quagmire of mediocrity -- then offers solutions ... effective ways to get unstuck and move into a bold, unpredictable, exhilarating walk with Christ. Inspired writing!

Send help to Haiti

Two ways we can reachout to the victims of the earthquakes in Haiti.

Haiti Relief 1: Cash contributions for Haiti relief will be sent to Good Shepherd Orphanage and School Foundation in Hebron, KY, which funds Good Shepherd Orphanage in Carrefour, about eight miles from Port au Prince. MCC's Joe Busken is a director and years ago helped establish a bakery there that until the earthquake fed hundreds of children daily with a nutrient-enriched bread recipe developed by Busken Bakery. Two GSOS board members flew to the Dominican Republic last week, purchased two truckloads of food, water and fuel, traveled 12 hours through the night, and arrived at the orphanage just as their supply of food and water was about to run out. Food and water will be the key priorities in the short term, according to Dave Zimmer, Treasurer, and one of the directors who made the trip. Please make checks payable to Mariemont Community Church with a notation to direct your donation to Haiti Relief.

Haiti Relief 2: Our own Kim Beach is selling t-shirts to raise funds for Jesus in Haiti, which operates an orphanage, school and church in Bon Repos, also just outside of Port au Prince. Groups from our neighbors SonRise Community Church have done mission trips with Jesus in Haiti the last two years. T-shirts are $15. Contact Kim Beach for more information.

If you wish to contribute to the relief effort please make your checks payable to Mariemont Community Church and mark “for Haiti” on the memo line.
