Church History
Mary Muhlenberg Emery We are blessed with two buildings listed on the National Historic Register. Below we share the vision of the founder of Mariemont Village, who desired a place for residents of faith to gather to celebrate, mourn and worship.
"In the belief that the Kingdom of God can be more speedily advanced and the spiritual needs of Mariemont vicinity can be best served by uniting all Christian believers in their worship, fellowship and Christian work, this church is founded."
--Mary Muhlenberg Emery, 1926
F ew buildings have had the intimate care in planning and scrupulous attention to detail in construction, which have been lavished upon the Mariemont Memorial Church. This mirrors the deep personal piety and perspective of values belonging to the founder of Mariemont, and the donor of the Church to the community, Mary Muhlenberg Emery. Mariemont Chapel Indeed, as a gesture illustrative of her faith, the Church was the first begun of the many structures in Mariemont. At the heart of the little village, in itself the consummation of a long dream in her heart, she put a place of worship as a perpetual gift to the people of community, with its tall spire as a constant reminder of the insight of the ancient psalmist:
Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that built it.
So a spiritual idea is behind Mariemont, and it is well for those whose dwelling-place it is to remember the fact.
